1. What are cookies

Cookies are small text files that websites place on your device (computer, phone, or tablet) when you visit them. They are widely used to make websites work, work more efficiently, and provide information to site owners. For details on how we handle all personal data beyond cookies, see our privacy policy.

There are two broad types:

  • First-party cookies are set by the website you are visiting (in this case, commodity.com). Only that website can read them.
  • Third-party cookies are set by other services embedded in the page (for example, analytics tools or security providers). Those services can read the cookies they set across different websites.

Cookies can also be session cookies (deleted when you close your browser) or persistent cookies (remain on your device for a set period or until you delete them).

2. Cookies we use

The table below lists every cookie set when you visit Commodity.com, grouped by category. We have kept this list as specific as possible – if you see a cookie from our site that is not listed here, please let us know.

Note: Cookie names marked with * contain a variable suffix (a unique identifier or property ID). The prefix is the consistent part.

3. What we don’t use cookies for

If we introduce additional categories of cookies in the future (such as advertising cookies), we will update this policy before setting those cookies and will provide clear notice on the site. 4. How to manage cookies

You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings. Here is how to do it in the most common browsers:

Google Chrome

  1. Click the three-dot menu (top right) and select Settings
  2. Click Privacy and security, then Cookies and other site data
  3. Choose your preferred setting: block all cookies, block third-party cookies, or allow all
  4. To delete existing cookies: click See all cookies and site data and remove individually or clear all

Mozilla Firefox

  1. Click the hamburger menu (three lines, top right) and select Settings
  2. Click Privacy & Security
  3. Under Enhanced Tracking Protection, choose Standard, Strict, or Custom
  4. To delete existing cookies: scroll to Cookies and Site Data and click Clear Data

Safari (Mac and iOS)

  1. Go to Safari > Settings (or Preferences on older versions)
  2. Click the Privacy tab
  3. Check Prevent cross-site tracking to block third-party cookies
  4. Click Manage Website Data to see and remove individual cookies

Microsoft Edge

  1. Click the three-dot menu (top right) and select Settings
  2. Click Cookies and site permissions, then Manage and delete cookies and site data
  3. Toggle Block third-party cookies or adjust other settings
  4. To delete existing cookies: click See all cookies and site data

To opt out of Google Analytics across all websites, you can install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

5. What happens if you disable cookies

Commodity.com will still work if you disable or block cookies. Here is what changes:

  • Language preference will not persist. You may need to re-select your preferred language each visit.
  • Dismissed notifications may reappear. Banners or notices you have closed may show again on your next visit.
  • Analytics will not track your visit. This is fine from your perspective – it simply means your visit will not appear in our usage statistics.
  • NitroPack caching may be less efficient. You may experience slightly slower page loads if the caching system cannot determine the best version to serve.

Core site functionality – reading content, navigating pages, using tools – does not depend on cookies.

6. Third-party cookies

Some cookies on our site are set by third-party services that we use. We do not control how these services manage their cookies. Their policies explain what they collect and why:

Note that Matomo cookies (_pk_id, _pk_ses) are classified as first-party because our Matomo instance is self-hosted on our own server. Your analytics data stays on our infrastructure and is not shared with Matomo or any other company.

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time, for example if we add new tools or change analytics providers. When we make changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
