This page contains important legal disclaimers about using Commodity.com. Please read these carefully. If you do not agree with these disclaimers, you should not use this site.

1. Not financial advice

Commodity.com provides information about commodity markets, trading, and broker comparisons for educational and informational purposes only. Nothing on this site constitutes financial advice, investment advice, trading advice, or any other kind of professional advice.

We do not:

  • Recommend specific investments, securities, or financial products
  • Provide personalized trading strategies or portfolio recommendations
  • Issue buy, sell, or hold signals for any commodity or financial instrument (our team may hold personal positions in assets we cover – this does not influence our editorial content)
  • Offer opinions on whether a particular trade or investment is suitable for you

Your financial situation, risk tolerance, and investment goals are unique. You should consult a qualified, licensed financial advisor in your jurisdiction before making any investment or trading decisions. Do not trade with money you cannot afford to lose.

2. CFD risk warning

CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. A majority of retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs. You should consider whether you understand how CFDs work and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money.

CFDs (Contracts for Difference) allow you to speculate on price movements without owning the underlying asset. While leverage can amplify gains, it equally amplifies losses. Key risks include:

  • Leverage risk. You can lose more than your initial deposit. A small price movement against your position can result in substantial losses relative to your margin.
  • Rapid losses. Commodity markets can move sharply due to supply disruptions, weather events, geopolitical developments, and economic data releases. Leveraged positions magnify these movements.
  • Overnight and weekend risk. Markets can gap significantly between trading sessions. Stop-loss orders may not execute at your specified price.
  • Counterparty risk. When trading CFDs, your counterparty is the broker. You are exposed to the broker’s financial stability.

European (ESMA) and UK (FCA) rules require brokers to disclose the percentage of retail investor accounts that lose money trading CFDs. These figures vary by broker and change quarterly – check each broker’s own disclosure for their specific figure.

3. Regulatory landscape

Financial regulation varies significantly by jurisdiction. The following table provides a simplified overview of how key markets regulate CFDs and cryptocurrency trading. This is not exhaustive, and regulations change frequently.

Jurisdiction CFDs Crypto Key Regulator(s)
United States Not available to retail traders Regulated, varies by state SEC, CFTC, FinCEN
United Kingdom Available with restrictions Regulated FCA
European Union Available with ESMA restrictions Varies by member state National regulators (e.g. BaFin, AMF, CySEC)
Australia Available Regulated ASIC
South Africa Available Largely unregulated FSCA

Note: This table is a simplified overview. Regulations change frequently. Always verify the current regulatory status in your jurisdiction before trading. Commodity.com uses GeoIP to show brokers that are licensed to operate in your approximate location, but this is not a guarantee of regulatory compliance – you are responsible for confirming that any broker you use is authorized in your country.

4. Data accuracy

Commodity.com displays commodity prices, charts, and market data sourced from third-party providers including TwelveData and MetalPriceAPI. For full details on our data providers and how prices are displayed, see our methodology page. You should be aware of the following limitations:

  • Prices are delayed. Data displayed on this site should not be used as real-time quotes for trading decisions. We endeavor to state the extent of delay where possible, but cannot guarantee that delay information is always accurate. Actual execution prices at your broker will differ.
  • Historical data is provided “as is.” While we make reasonable efforts to ensure accuracy, historical price data may contain gaps, inaccuracies, or adjustments that differ from other sources.
  • No guarantee of accuracy. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any price data, market information, or financial data displayed on this site.
  • Third-party providers may experience outages. Data feeds can be interrupted, delayed, or temporarily unavailable. Commodity.com is not responsible for third-party data provider performance.

Always verify prices directly with your broker or exchange before making trading decisions. If you notice a data error, please let us know so we can investigate.

5. Broker information

Commodity.com compares brokers across 100+ countries. The following limitations apply to all broker-related content on this site:

  • Reviews reflect conditions at the time of writing or last update. Broker fees, spreads, available instruments, minimum deposits, leverage limits, and regulatory status can change without notice.
  • Loss rate figures vary by broker. Each regulated broker publishes the percentage of retail accounts that lose money trading CFDs. These figures change quarterly – check each broker’s website for their current number.
  • Broker availability varies by jurisdiction. Not all brokers accept clients from all countries. GeoIP filtering on our site is approximate – always confirm directly with the broker that they accept clients from your country of residence.
  • Regulatory status can change. A broker’s license or regulatory standing may change after we publish a review. Verify a broker’s current regulatory status on the relevant regulator’s website before opening an account.
  • Demo accounts differ from live trading. Simulated trading environments may not accurately reflect real market conditions, including slippage, liquidity, and execution speed.

Always read a broker’s own terms and conditions, risk disclosures, and fee schedule before opening an account.

6. Third-party content

Some content on Commodity.com is written by guest authors or external contributors. The views expressed in such content are those of the individual author and do not necessarily represent the views of Commodity.com or Moneda Media LLC.

While we review all content for accuracy and editorial standards before publication, ultimate responsibility for specific claims, projections, or opinions expressed rests with the author. Our editorial policy outlines how we manage contributor content and potential conflicts of interest.

7. Tax

Trading commodities, CFDs, cryptocurrencies, and other financial instruments has tax implications that vary significantly by jurisdiction. This includes but is not limited to capital gains tax, income tax, and reporting obligations.

Commodity.com does not provide tax advice. Tax treatment depends on your individual circumstances and may change. Consult a qualified tax professional in your jurisdiction before trading. You are solely responsible for understanding and complying with your tax obligations.

8. Past performance

Past performance of any commodity, security, broker, or trading strategy is not indicative of future results.

The value of investments and any income from them can go down as well as up. You may not get back the amount you invested. This applies to:

  • Historical price charts and data displayed on this site
  • Any discussion of historical returns, yields, or price movements
  • Broker performance metrics or platform comparisons
  • Hypothetical or back-tested trading strategies discussed in educational content

Commodity markets are affected by unpredictable factors including weather, geopolitical events, supply disruptions, regulatory changes, and macroeconomic conditions. No analysis – however thorough – can reliably predict future price movements.

9. Affiliate relationships

Commodity.com earns commissions from some of the brokers listed on this site through affiliate links. When you click a broker link and open an account, we may receive a referral fee.

Affiliate relationships do not affect our editorial content, review methodology, or broker rankings. Full details of how our business model works, which brokers we have affiliate relationships with, and how we manage potential conflicts of interest are published in our affiliate disclosure. Our editorial policy explains the structural safeguards that keep editorial independent from commercial.

Commodity.com contains links to third-party websites including broker platforms, regulatory bodies, data providers, and educational resources. We are not responsible for:

  • The content, accuracy, or opinions expressed on external sites
  • The privacy practices or data collection policies of external sites
  • The availability or functionality of external sites
  • Any transactions you enter into on external sites

The inclusion of a link does not imply endorsement of that site or its content. Exercise your own judgment when following external links, and review the terms and privacy policies of any third-party site before providing personal information or making financial commitments.

You use this site entirely at your own risk. You are solely responsible for your trading and investment decisions.
